Nikolai Estis is a master of elusive image.

Nikolai Estis was born in Moscow on August 8, 1937. Until 1954 he lived in the town of Khmelnik, the Vinnitsa Region of Ukraine. In 1958 he graduated from the Moscow Art and Graphic School and starting from 1960 participated in many Moscow, all-Union and international exhibitions. Since 1966 he has had more than 70 personal exhibitions in Russia and abroad. He is the winner of various grants and awards.

The artist’s works are to be found in many private collections and museums around the world, including the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum and the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia in Moscow, the State Art Museum of Estonia, the collections of George Costakis (Greece), Deutsche Bank (Germany), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, etc.

Nikolai Estis is a member of the Artists’ Unions of Russia and Germany, and of the Artists’ International Association (AIA). His name is included in the encyclopaedia Die bildenden Künstler aller Zeiten und Völker (Munich/Leipzig, 2003).

Since 1996 Nikolai Estis has been living and working in Hamburg and Moscow.
